How Can I Upgrade the System Software of Huawei S7700 S9700 Without Interrupting Services

Huawei S7700&S9700 support in-service software upgrade (ISSU). The following uses the S7700 as an example to describe the upgrade proces

The procedure of in-service upgrade is as follows:

  1. Run the save command to save the configuration before upgrade.

 NOTE:

Ensure that the key data is backed up before upgrade. Key data includes the configuration file, license file, web file, system startup file, and patch file of the current version. The backup data can be used in version rollback.

  1. Check the free space of the flash memory or CF card on the MPU to ensure that the free space is sufficient for the upgrade software.
  2. Check the version of the system software and BootROM version of each board to determine whether the BootROM needs to be upgraded.
  3. Upload the upgrade file of the system software to the flash memory or CF card (CF card recommended) of the master MPU through FTP. If two MPUs are installed, copy the upgrade file to the slave MPU by using the copy For example, to copy the upgrade file to the flash, run the following command:
<HUAWEI> copy s7700.cc slave#flash:/

To copy the upgrade file to the CF card, run the following command:

<HUAWEI> copy s7700.cc slave#cfcard:/
  1. Specify the software version to be loaded when the system starts the next time. If two MPUs are installed, you need to specify the software version for both the two MPUs. For example:
  2.
<HUAWEI> startup system-software s7700.cc
<HUAWEI> startup system-software s7700.cc slave-board
  1. Verify that the startup file has been changed.
  2. <HUAWEI> display startup
  3. mainboard:
    Configed startup system software:          cfcard:/s7700_rmon.cc
    Startup system software:                   cfcard:/s7700_rmon.cc
    Next startup system software:          cfcard:/s7700.cc
    Startup saved-configuration file:          cfcard:/vrpcfg.zip
    Next startup saved-configuration file:     cfcard:/vrpcfg.zip
    Startup patch package:                     NULL
    Next startup patch package:                NULL
    SlaveBoard:
    Configed startup system software:          cfcard:/s7700_rmon.cc
    Startup system software:                   cfcard:/s7700_rmon.cc
    Next startup system software:          cfcard:/s7700.cc
    Startup saved-configuration file:          cfcard:/vrpcfg.zip
    Next startup saved-configuration file:     cfcard:/vrpcfg.zip
  4.
Startup patch package:                     NULL
Next startup patch package:                NULL

11.Restart the system.

<HUAWEI> reboot

12.Check the system version to verify that the system software has been upgraded correctly.

13.Check whether all services are running normally and whether the configuration is restored completely. If yes, it indicates that the upgrade is successful.

14.If services run abnormally, roll back the system version. To roll back the system version, specify the previous software version as the startup version and restart the system.
