OSN 6800

Notice on Full Flash Memory of SCC Board Due to Defects License of OSN6800&OSN8800

Summary: The debugging information of the license module of the software of SCC boards is accumulated in the flash memory, causing that the flash memory exhausts. As a result, the storage of configuration data and database backup data is affected.
[Problem Description]
Trigger conditions:
The NE is OptiX OSN 6800 V100R005C00SPC700(5.51.06.12) or
OptiX OSN 6800 V100R005C00SPC800 (5.51.06.14) or
OptiX OSN 8800 V100R005C00SPC700(5.51.06.12) or
OptiX OSN 8800 V100R005C00 SPC800 (5.51.06.14).
Both active and standby SCC boards are installed on the master subrack of the NE.

OSN 6800
Symptom:
1. The flash memory of the active and standby SCC boards exhausts.
2. The database cannot be backed up and a DBMS_ERROR alarm is reported.
3. New configuration data is lost.
Identification method:
Step1 Check whether the software version of the SCC boards on the NE is V100R005C00SPC700(5.51.06.12) or V100R005C00SPC800 (5.51.06.14).
Step2 Check whether there are HBUMSG.TXT files on the active and standby boards by running the following commands. If yes, the flash memory of the active and standby SCC boards may exhaust.
sftm-show-dir:active SCC board,”ofs1/license”
sftm-show-dir:standby SCC board,”ofs1/license”
Step3 Check whether a DBMS_ERROR alarm is reported. If yes, the database is already faulty. Take the actions listed in the workarounds immediately.
Step4 Check the free space of the flash memory of SCC boards by running the following commands:

sftm-get-freespace:active SCC board,”ofs1″

sftm-get-freespace:standby SCC board,”ofs1″

sftm-get-freespace:standby SCC board,”ofs2″

[Root Cause]
The debugging information of the license module of the software of SCC boards is accumulated in the flash memory of the SCC boards. Generally, 1 M flash memory is consumed by the active SCC board in about 20 days; and 1M flash memory is consumed by the standby SCC board in about 10 days. In this way, the flash memory of the SCC boards exhaust.
[Impact and Risk]
Impact:
The flash memory of the active and standby SCC boards exhausts.
The database cannot be backed up and a DBMS_ERROR alarm is reported.
New configuration data is lost.
[Measures and Solutions]
Workarounds:
1. Check whether there are HBUMSG.TXT files on the active and standby boards using the following commands.
sftm-show-dir:active SCC board,”ofs1/license”
sftm-show-dir:standby SCC board,”ofs1/license”
2. Delete the HBUMSG.TXT files on the active and standby boards if the files are present on the SCC boards.
sftm-delete-file:active SCC board,”ofs1/license/HBUMSG.TXT”
sftm-delete-file:standby SCC board,”ofs1/license/HBUMSG.TXT”

Preventive measures:
Check the flash memory of the SCC boards every six months. Clean the files in the flash memory of the SCC boards by referring to the Workarounds. Normally, the free space of the flash memory of the SCC boards on OptiX OSN 6800/8800 is about 80 M.

Solutions:  Upgrade OptiX OSN 6800/8800 to V100R005C00SPC900 (5.51.06.18) or later versions.
