POWER_FAIL alarm on GSCC

I would like to share with you an issue about POWER_FAIL alarm on the GSCC logical board in an OptiX OSN 1500B.

The basic functions of the GSCC unit of the CXLLN board are configures and monitors services, monitors the service performance, and collects the information about the performance events and alarms.

The physical slot that houses the CXLLN is different from the logical slot displayed on the NMS. The CXLLN occupies one slot in the OptiX OSN 1500B subrack.

In this case, the logical boards for the R2CXLLN are the R2SLN, R2CXL, and GSCC.

Description:

The POWER_FAIL alarm appears on SCC unit (Slot 83) of the CXLLN main board (Slot 5).

POWER_FAIL alarm on GSCC-1

POWER_FAIL alarm on GSCC-2

The POWER_FAIL is an alarm indicating that the status of the power supply on the SCC board is abnormal (for example, the battery on the SCC board has no charge).

When the POWER_FAIL alarm occurs, the system time is lost if the system is powered off.

Analysis:

The possible causes of the POWER_FAIL alarm can be the following:

  • Cause 1: The jumper on the SCC board is incorrectly set.

  • Cause 2: The battery on the SCC board has no charge.

Analyzing the parameters displayed in the Alarm Details field of the POWER_FAIL alarm, the following information is obtained:

POWER_FAIL alarm on GSCC-3

POWER_FAIL alarm on GSCC-4

So obviously for this issue the cause is “The battery on the SCC board has no charge” (Cause 2).

Solution:

  1. Replace the SCC board (that is, replacing a CXL board).

  2. Check whether the POWER_FAIL alarm is cleared. If the alarm persists, contact Huawei technical support engineers to handle the alarm.

Fortunately, after replacing the R2CXLLN board, POWER_FAIL alarm is cleared and there isn’t need to contact Huawei technical support engineers.

NOTE: Replacement CXL boards must have the same software (logical) and hardware (physical) functional version as the CXL boards being replaced.
