Comparison of Huawei OptiX OSN 1800

The Huawei OptiX OSN1800 is a series of box architecture Multi-Service Optical Transport Network (MS-OTN) transmission equipment that supports Time Division Multiplexing (TDM), packet, and Optical Transmission Network (OTN) services over a metro or campus optical network.

Huawei OSN 1800 provides 5 platforms, OSN 1800 I&II Compact is OTN equipment, supporting only OTN services, however, OSN 1800 I&II Enhanced and OSN 1800 V are MS-OTN product, supporting OTN, packet, and TDM services. In this article, we will compare the OSN 1800 series from different aspects.

OSN 1800 I&II Compact

Transmission of all services over a single network

  • Encapsulates all services, from low-rate services (such as FE services) to high-bandwidth services, into OTN frames for transmission.

Hybrid networking of CWDM and DWDM

  • This networking mode enables smooth upgrade from CWDM to DWDM.

OSN 1800 I Enhanced

MS-OTN compliance, supporting access of any-rate services over a single network

  • A single chassis supports a maximum of 40 Gbit/s OTN capacity, 120 Gbit/s packet capacity, 42.5 Gbit/s SDH higher-order and 5 Gbit/s SDH lower-order capacities.

OSN 1800 II Enhanced

MS-OTN compliance, supporting access of any-rate services over a single network

  • A single chassis supports full-granularity cross-connections and multiplexing. It allows for a maximum of 200 Gbit/s OTN capacity, 160 Gbit/s packet capacity, 50 Gbit/s SDH higher-order and 20 Gbit/s SDH lower-order capacities, and supports ODUk (k = 0, 1, 2, 2e, 3, 4, C2, flex).
  • The OSN 1800 II Enhanced supports universal line boards, allowing services after being scheduled on the OTN, SDH, PKT service planes to hitlessly share line transmission bandwidth.
  • Encapsulates all services, from low-rate services (such as FE services) to high-bandwidth services, into OTN frames for transmission.

OSN 1800 V

MS-OTN compliance and compact design (5 U high), supporting access of Any-rate services

  • A single chassis supports full-granularity cross-connections and multiplexing (only Z-series cross-connections support ODU3). It allows for a maximum of 700 Gbit/s OTN capacity, 700 Gbit/s packet capacity, 280 Gbit/s SDH higher-order and 40 Gbit/s SDH lower-order capacities, and supports ODUk (k = 0, 1, 2, 2e, 3, 4, C2, flex). This significantly improves line bandwidth usage.
  • The 1800 V supports universal line boards, allowing services after being scheduled on the OTN, SDH, PKT service planes to hitlessly share line transmission bandwidth.
  • Targeted for metro edge applications, the 1800 V can be deployed as a service access or aggregation node, and supports uniform of full services (1.5 Mbit/s to 100 Gbit/s).
