How to modify a GPON UNI Port on Huawei OLT via U2000?

Many ISP customers want to use U2000 NMS to manage Huawei MA5600T, MA5800 series OLT. But U2000 is more complex than command line, some customers do not know how to do configurations and modify data on MA5600T MA5800 via U2000, here is a guidance of how to modify an OLT GPON UNI port via U2000.

Navigation Path

1. In the Main Topology, double-click the required NE in the Physical Root navigation tree; or right-click the required NE and choose NE Explorer from the shortcut menu.

2. Choose GPON > GPON Management from the navigation tree.

3. On the GPON UNI Port tab page, set the filter criteria to display the required GPON UNI ports.

4. Right-click a record and choose Modify from the shortcut menu.

Guideline

GPON UNI ports are user-network interfaces on the NE. GPON ONU/ONT connect to the NE through GPON UNI ports.

Parameter Description

Table 1 Parameters required for modifying a GPON UNI port

Parameter Description Settings
Basic Info
Name Definition:
Indicates the name of the GPON UNI port. The name uniquely identifies the GPON UNI port.
Alias Definition:
Indicates the alias of the GPON UNI port. You can customize an alias, which  is easy to understand and remember. The alias is used to identify a GPON UNI port.
Range:

Character string type. It consists of up to 32 characters.

The following characters are supported:

·           English letters: A-Z and a-z.

·           Numbers: 0-9.

·           Symbols: – \ . / @ ( ) _ + : and space.

·           All the non-English characters, including Chinese, Korean, Japanese, and French characters.

Downstream FEC Definition:
Enables or disables the FEC function of the GPON UNI port.
To enhance data transmission reliability over the downstream transmission link between the OLT and the ONU, enable the FEC function. After the FEC function is enabled, the system inserts redundant data into normal packets to enable the link to tolerate errors. The insertion, however, wastes certain bandwidth resources.
Range:

Enumerated   type. The options are as follows:

·           Enable

·           Disable

Default:  Disable.
NOTE:
If the service board of the OLT is an XG-PON board, the Downstream FEC is fixed to Enable.

ONU Auto Discovery Definition:
Enables or disables the ONU auto-discovery of the GPON UNI port. After this function is enabled, the OLT periodically checks whether new ONUs  go online.
Range:

Enumerated   type. The options are as follows:

·           Enable

·           Disable

Default: Enable.

Optical Alarm Profile Definition:
Indicates the optical alarm template bound to the ONU. The ONU optical alarm template is used to manage the alarm thresholds of the optical transceiver in   a centralized manner.
Setting method:
Click next to Optical Alarm Profile. In the dialog box that is displayed, select the required alarm profile.
Bandwidth Settings
Max.Multicast Bandwidth Definition:
Indicates the bandwidth allocated to multicast programs at the GPON UNI port. This parameter restricts the bandwidth of multicast programs.
Relation to other parameters:
This parameter is read-only when the No Limit check box is   selected.
Range:
Numeral type. It ranges from 512 kbit/s to 2608857 kbit/s.
Unit: kbit/s.
Unlimited Definition:
Imposes or removes restrictions on or from the bandwidth of the multicast programs at the GPON UNI port. If you select the Unlimited check box, the bandwidth of the multicast programs at the GPON UNI port is not restricted.
Range:
Select the Unlimited check box.
DBA Bandwidth Assignment Mode Definition:
Set the DBA bandwidth assignment mode. The minimum bandwidth varies according to the DBA bandwidth assignment mode. Therefore, the DBA bandwidth assignment mode must be specified before an ONT is added. The DBA bandwidth assignment mode for an existing ONT cannot be changed.
NOTE:
Only the GPBD card supports this parameters.
Range:

Enumerated type. The options are as follows:

·           Default(Use the NE setting)

·           Max. bandwidth usage

·           Min. line latency

·           Manual setting

NOTE:
The TDM service is normal only when the assignment mode of the DBA bandwidth is min-loop-delay. That is, min-loop-delay should be selected to ensure the normal running of the TDM service.

ONU Key Update
Enable ONU Key Update Definition:
Enables ONU key update at the GPON UNI port. If packets transmitted between cards and terminals are encrypted, the two sides encrypt and decrypt the packets based on the key. The key must be updated regularly to enhance system   security.
Setting Method:
Select the Enable ONU Key Update check box.
Update Interval Definition:
Indicates the interval at which the ONU key at the GPON UNI port is updated.
Relation to other parameters:
This parameter is mandatory when the Enable ONU Key Update check box is selected.
Range:

Numeral type. It ranges from 5 to 1440.

Unit: min.

Min. Distance Definition:

Indicates the actual minimum logical distance of the ONU. To fully use the bandwidth and prevent the conflict between the upstream data of ONUs, the system implements the ranging and compensation function. This parameter and Max. Distanceare used together to determine the range of the ranging and compensation at the GPON UNI port. After the parameter is set, the system calculates the delay preset for balance based onMin. Distance.

CAUTION:

·           The value of Max. Distance shouldn’t be longer 20 km   than the value of Min. Distance.

·           If the service board of the OLT is an XG-PON board, the value of Max. Distance shouldn’t be longer40 km than the value of Min. Distance.

Relation to other parameters:
Min. Distance and Max. Distance are used   together to determine the range of the ranging and compensation at a GPON UNI   port.

Range:
Numeral type. It ranges from 0 to 40.
NOTE:
If the service board of the OLT is an XG-PON board, the value ofMin. Distance ranges from 0 to 60.
Unit: km.
Default: 0.
Max.Distance Definition:
Indicates the actual maximum logical distance of the ONU. To fully use the bandwidth and prevent the conflict between the upstream data of ONUs, the system implements the ranging and compensation. This parameter and Min. Distance are used together to determine the range of the ranging and compensation at the GPON UNI port. After the parameter is set, the system considers that every ONU connected to the GPON UNI port sends data to the ONU at the maximum distance defined by the Max. Distance.

Distance are used together to determine the range of the ranging and compensation at the GPON UNI port.

Range:
Numeral type. It ranges from 0 to 60.
NOTE:
If the service board of the OLT is an XG-PON board, the value ofMax.  Distance ranges from 0 to 100.
Unit: km.Default: 20 km.

On Huawei GPON OLT, there are many functions and status, which can be configured via U2000. Such as setting OLT GPON board L2 Isolation Status Parameters on U2000, you can find the setting guide in the Support catalogue at Thunder-link.com website, also with U2000 installation guide and MA5600T software upgrade guide etc.
