How to Update U2000 License?

U2000 as an equipment management system developed by Huawei. It is a major future-oriented network management solution that provides powerful element management and network management functions. If without U2000 license file, you can’t log in U2000 client. Therefore, U2000 license must be updated in time.

In this article, we are going to introduce the operation methods of updating U2000 license

All firmware should be provided by the client and obtained from legally authorized way.

Precondition

a. Ensure the operation system and database work properly.

b. Ensure U2000 process can be started up properly, and start up U2000 process.

c. Log in U2000 under “admin” account.

d. U2000 license files are acquired

e. The name of license files can only contain numbers and words.

f. The way of the client graphical interface: put the new U2000 license on the server, in the NMS.

g. After installing U2000, need to load U2000 license before using U2000.

h. License files use text mode in the transfer process, that is ASCII mode.

Background Information

When updating the U2000 license files, a temporary U2000 license can be used to replace the commercial U2000 license. But in order to ensure properly use of the NMS, please replace it with the commercial license as soon as possible.

U2000 license is not compatible among the R versions, such as, the V100R001 version and V100R002.

Determine whether the U2000 license needs to be updated based on the usage of the U2000 license.

When the device supported by the new license is not consistent with the old license:

If the device supported by the new license is added in the old license, at the same time, if the newly added device is already supported in the current version, you can update the license. Otherwise, it cannot be updated.

If the device supported by the new license is deleted on the old license, and at the same time, if deleted the device without corresponding NE in the network, you can update the license, otherwise, it cannot be updated.

For the IP domain, when the function item supported by the new license is less than the old license, it cannot be updated.

When the number of clients supported by new license is not consistent with the old license:

• If the number of clients supported by the new license is less than the old license, at the same time, if the number of clients that are currently logged on is less than the number of clients that are supported in the new license, you can update the license. Otherwise, it cannot be updated.
• If the number of clients supported by the new license is more than old license, you can update the license.

For the above situations, the U2000 license can be updated.

There are two methods you can choose to update U2000 license: the client graphical interface and command line.

Method of the client graphical interface:

Application scenarios: It is recommended to use the client graphical interface. As long as it can enter the graphical interface, and can login U2000 client, please use this way.

Operation method: Log in the client, then click “Update License” to execute the updating operation.

Update the license before restarting the client, the client interface will reload according to the updated license control item.

If update U2000 license by using client graphical interface will refer to increase the deployment of element management or other processes, when update before you start up the U2000 license, if user’s operation refers to these processes, it will remind you timeout. Suggest to check the start-up process in the monitor client interface of the system, to ensure that all process start properly, and then go on related operation.

To ensure U2000 work properly, please don’t replace license file by selves.

State?

If you want to make both the U2000 license and U2000 temporary license come into effect, please use the graphical method.

Operation steps:

Client graphical interface mode

In the single server system:

1.Backup the original license file on the U2000 server computer.

Under the windows system

Create a “backup” folder under the default directory “D:\oss\server\etc\conf\license” and copy the original license file to this folder.

2. Use NMS to update U2000 license

a. In the main menu, select “help > License management > License information” or double click “system management” in the application center, then select “License management > License information”, the former is traditional style, and the latter is application style.

b. In the pop-up “License information” dialog box, click “update License”

c. Select the new license files, click “Open”.

d. Click “next”.

e. According to the actual situation, choose a scene operation:

• If the “incremental updating” is displayed, click “next” directly.
• If the “incremental update” isn’t displayed, and you only want to let the new U2000 license to take effect, please choose “total update”, then click “next”.
• If the “incremental update” isn’t displayed, and you want to make the new U2000 license and running U2000 license come into effect, please choose “incremental update”, then click “next”. If there are both commercial license and temporary license in the running U2000 license, at this time, the new license will replace the corresponding type of old license, which means, the commercial license replace commercial license, and temporary license replace temporary license.

f. Click “finished”.

g. Click “Yes” to ensure updating license.

h. Click “Yes”, the system will close all windows.

i. Click “Yes”, system will log out.

3. Updating license before you restart the U2000 client, U2000 client interface will reload according to the updated license control item.

In the high availability system:

Update the license of high availability systems using client-side graphical methods, you need to switch the master slave, it will lead to a short offline which is less than 15 minutes. In the highly availability system, recommend for using the command line to update the license, for the specific operation, please refer to the operation method of the high availability system under the command line.

4. Login to the server of the U2000 master-slave site.

5. Back-up the original license file on the server of theU2000 master-slave site.

Create a “backup” folder in the default directory and copy the original license file to this folder.

State:

The default directory for the License file under the Windows system is “D:\oss\server\etc\conf\license”.

6.Updating the license file on the master station.

a. Login to the operating system where the NMS is located.

If it is Windows operation system, please login to the operation system with administrator.

b. Put the need to load license on the server of the NMS.

c. Double click the “U2000 client” short-cut icon on the system desktop, a “login” dialog box will pup-up.

d. In the server of drop-down list, select the master server to login, enter a valid user name and password (The initial password for the Changeme_123, it requests to modify the password when you login for the first time. If it is a pre-installed server, pre-installed for production when the goods are dispatched, the password will be modified to Admin_123. In order to ensure the system security, please change the password in time, and regularly update and properly keep the password.), click “Login”, enter the NMS.

State: 

If log in system without license:

1.Click “yes” in the “confirmation” dialog box, there will pop-up an “open” dialog box.

2.Select the new license file in the pop-up dialog box, click “open”, then pop up a “License comparison” dialog   box.

3.Click “Submit”.

4.Click “yes”, ensure to loading the license.

5.Click “Submit”.

If you have loaded the license before:

1.In the mainly menu, select “help > License Management > License Information”, or double click “System Management” in the “application center”, then select “License Management > License Information”, the former is traditional style, the latter is application style.

2.In the popping up “License Information” dialog box, click “update License”.

3.Select the new license file, click “Open”.

4.Click “next”.

5.According to the practical situation, choose a scene operation:

If the “incremental update” is displayed, click “next” directly.

If the “incremental update” isn’t displayed, and only want to make new U2000 license come into effect, please choose “total update”, then click “next”.

If the “incremental update” isn’t displayed, and you want to make the new U2000 license and the running U2000 license come into effect, please choose “incremental update”, then click “next”. If there are both commercial license and temporary license in the running U2000 license, at this time, the new license will replace the corresponding type of old license, which means, the commercial license replace commercial license, and temporary license replace temporary license.

6.Click “Finished”.

7.Click “Yes”, ensure to update License.

8.Click “Yes”, all the windows will be closed.

9.Click “Yes”, system will be logout.

10.Updating the license before you restart the U2000 client, U2000 client interface will reload according to the updated license control item.

In the light engine system:

1.On the U2000 server, back up the original license file.

Under the Windows system:

In the default directory “D: \ oss \ server \ etc \ conf \ license”, create “backup” folder, copy the original license file to this folder.

2. Updating U2000 license.

Under the Windows system:

a. Log into the server of operation system.

b. Executing the following command to update U2000 license file: update license – file license filename

State:

License filename: The combination of the “absolute path + filename”. For example: If the license filename is license123.dat, and the path is “d:\”. The command of updating U2000 License file for > update License -file d:\license123.dat. If the system displays with messy code, please set the environment variable: FILEIO_LOCAL_CHARSET=1.

The screen display as the following information:

c. Input “Y”, press “Enter”.

In the high availability system:

3. Log in the U2000 master site server.

4. Back up the original license file on the U2000 master site server.

In the default directory, create “backup” folder, copy the original license file to this folder.

State:

The default directory for the License file under the Windows system is “D:\oss\server\etc\conf\license””.

5.Using the update license command to update the license file.

6.Updating license before restarting the client, the client interface will reload according to the updated license control item.

Operation consequence

After the completion of the above operation, it will automatically load the /opt/oss/server/etc/conf/license to the “License” category.

Remark information:

1.The time of the license is: 2014-05-07 2013-11-08, please adjust the computer time to this range.

2.If the computer is installed U2000, then the IP address cannot be changed, otherwise it will affect U2000 properly using.

3.When start-up the computer, please ensure that the Ethernet cable is connected, otherwise the U2000 system cannot be started.

Note?

After the computer is started, adjust the IP address, or connect the Ethernet cable, the system needs to restart, in order to make the U2000 system meet the above requirements.
