Huawei OSN 9800 U16 U32 U64 UPS Comparison

Huawei OSN 9800 is a next-generation high-capacity, intelligent, and converged optical and packet Optical Transmission Network (OTN) platform for 100G and beyond.

Based on industry-leading T-bit universal switching platform, Huawei OSN 9800 supports OTN, Virtual Circuit (VC) and Packet (PKT). A high level of integration and a modular design enable service access from 2 Mbit/s to 400 Gigabit Ethernet (GE), with transmission of 100G/200G/400G/800G per lambda, which can be seamlessly expanded to 1T/2T.

OSN 9800 includes OSN 9800 U (U16, U32, U64) , M series (M05, M12, M24), P series (P32, P32C) and OSN 9800 UPS, they have different performance and service slots capacity, this article will mainly introduce the comparison of OSN 9800 U16 U32 U64 and OSN 9800 UPS.

For a new network, the OptiX OSN 9800 are usually used as electrical subrack and optical subrack. For a capacity expansion network, the 9800 supports multiple expansion modes, as shown in below figure, the following are the three main expansion modes:

  1. Node expansion: At a node, add OptiX OSN 9800 as electrical subrack and optical subrack, and interconnect the node with the OptiX OSN 8800 node on the network.
  2. Capacity expansion: At a node, add an electrical OptiX OSN 9800 subrack to work with existing electrical and optical OptiX OSN 8800 subracks to expand the electrical-layer capacity of the node.
  3. Grooming capability enhancement for optical line amplifier (OLA) sites: At an OLA site, an electrical OptiX OSN 9800 subrack is added to work with an existing optical OptiX OSN 8800 or 6800 subrack to enhance the electrical grooming capability of the OLA site.

OSN9800

Compared with Huawei OSN 8800, OSN 9800 is new and current market price is high, so customers still choose OSN 8800 for their WDM transmission network due to limited budget and more experienced OSN8800 technicians. Anyway, if you want to know OSN 9800, includes products, price and technical support, you can contact supports@thunder-link.com.
