At present, the widely deployed EPON and GPON technology can provide access bandwidth from 1G to 2.5Gbps, but with the rapid development of video and other high bandwidth services, higher requirements for access bandwidth are put forward. So, this article mainly introduces the next-generation PON solution based on Huawei XG(S)-PON.

From the above, compared to the MA5600T, the MA5800 series has gained significant improvements in bandwidth and switching capacity.
Some customers may think that XG(S)-PON is too advanced for them at the moment and only consider the cheaper MA5600T series; but in fact, Huawei has discontinued the MA5600T series, which leads to only pre-owned MA5683T and MA5680T being available in the market. And even the brand new MA5608T, with its similar configuration to the MA5800 X2, is only $200+ cheaper.

Compared to the MA5800, the MA5600T series only supports XG-PON, XG(S)-PON, and XG-PON combo board and has fewer options, while the MA5800 series additionally supports XG(S)-PON combo board; it can work together with the ONU to provide XGS-PON, XG-PON, and GPON access services in one board.

For Huawei XG(S)-PON ONT, there is not much need to consider about, except for the wifi performance, which is almost the same specification.
What’s more important is the OLT selection, based on the comparison from the above aspects, the MA5800 series is far better than the MA5600 series in terms of features/performance and board selectivity. There is no doubt that the MA5800 series is the most suitable choice for Huawei’s current XG-PON solution.
