Introduction for Huawei ME60 Cards

Huawei ME60 is a range of multiple-service control gateways, also a BRAS ( Broadband Remote Access Server).  It serves as a platform for unified user access and management, and most suitable for industries such as broadcasting, television, and education. Based on a 2T platform, the series boasts the industry’s largest-capacity routing line card (480G) plus a large-capacity NAT service line card (160G), enabling smooth evolution from IPv4 to IPv6.

ME60 series router includes ME60-X3, X8, X8A, X16 and X16A, with different slots qty, capacity and performance. Also it has  various cards such as control and switching cards SRU SFU, mother card BUSF, service cards BP240 BP100, and NAT cards VSUF160, SP160 etc. This article will briefly introduce the naming rules and specifications comparison of ME60 mainstream cards.

ME60 cards introduction

1, SRU/MPU, main control board of ME60, SRU controls and manages the system and exchanges data.; ME60 provides two SRUs and SRUs work in 1:1 backup mode

2, SFU, switching unit of ME60

3, BSU: broadband service unit

  • BSUF: broadband service unit flexible

BSUF mother card has no service port, it provides slots for its daughter cards (like BP240 BP100) to realize GE 10GE 100G data service, most BSUF cards have two slots.ME60 BSUF

  • BSUI: broadband service unit integrated

Same size as BSUF card, but itself has GE 10GE or 100G service port on the front panel, ports are fixed, less flexible than mother card+ daughter card.

4, MSU: Multi service unit

It also includes flexible card MSUF and integrated card MSUI

Note: difference between BSU and MSU

BSU card is for access at user side, support user access

MSU card is for network side, does not support user access.

5, VSUF: Versatile service unit, provides NAT, NAT444/DS-Lite and NAT64.

VSUF is a mother card, it supports daughter cards SP80 or SP160
