ME60 NAT Board VSUF-80 and VSUF-160 Comparison

Huawei ME60 value-added service board VSUF-80 and VSUF-160 support NAT44 function, so we also called them ME60 NAT boards, and it requires NAT session license if you need use NAT function.

Then is there any difference between these two NAT boards? Here we will compare VSUF-80 and VSUF-160 in below 3 parts.

1, Appearance

VSUF-80 has 1 subslot, while VSUF-160 has 2 subcards.

3, Max forwarding capability supported

VSUF-80 itself supports 40G and it can be expanded as below solution to MAX 80 Gbit/s

  • SP80: 40 Gbit/s
  • One 20G license

VSUF-160 itself supports 40G and it can be expanded as below solution to MAX 160 Gbit/s

  • 40G SP160, two SP160 can be configured
  • 20G license, two 20G license can be configure

4, ME60 installed slots recommended

Note: When VSUF-160 installed on ME60-X8 and X16, the Chassis must work with 200G SFU.

5, Functions and license

VSUF-80/160 both provide NAT44, DS-Lite and L2-Aware NAT functions, but if you want them to realize these functions, you have to install relative license to activate the function. Below are detailed introduction for each functions and license.

NAT44

Network address translation (NAT) is an important technology used in the transition from IPv4 to IPv6 networks. NAT44 allows an IPv4 address to be translated into another IPv4 address. NAT444 is NAT44 performed twice, once on a customer premises equipment (CPE) device and the second time on a carrier-grade NAT (CGN) device. Because of its efficiency, NAT444, also called large scale NAT (LSN), is utilized in situations where NAT is used on carrier networks on a large scale.

License: 2M NAT Session License, 16M NAT session license

There are 2M and 16M license available, if 10M license needed, five 2M NAT license can be installed; if more than 16M license, choose 16M and 2M mixed.

DS-Lite

Dual-Stack Lite (DS-Lite) is an IPv6 transition technology. DS-Lite enables an IPv4 in an IPv6 tunnel to be established between the CPE and CGN devices. Also, a private IP address can be encapsulated for NAT on the CGN. And, a private IP address can be translated to a public network IPv4 address.

L2-Aware NAT

L2-Aware NAT is a special NAT technology that translates private network IP addresses and port IDs into public network IP addresses and port IDs. In L2-Aware NAT, user location information (PPP session ID, MAC address, and user VLAN ID), private network IP addresses, and port IDs are translated into public network IP addresses and port IDs.

Actually, there is anothe NAT board VSUF-40 supported by ME60, itself provides 20G forwarding capacity and can support one SP80, but it cannot support DS-Lite function. It is not the mainstream, so no comparison in this article, if you have anything unclear, you can contact supports@thunder-link.com.
