Commonly Used Licenses for ME60 Series Router

Commonly-used-licenses-for-ME60-series-routers

The ME60 router consists of a range of multi-service control gateways developed by Huawei to serve as broadband network gateways (BNGs) for broadband service access and service provider nodes on IP/MPLS networks. As a high-performance service management and provisioning platform, the ME60 fully meets the requirements of various service operating modes and ensures stability and reliability while carrying multiple services. The ME60 supports smooth upgrades for evolution towards cloud-based user management, meeting carriers’ requirements for future evolution to intelligent, broadband IP networks.

The ME60 series router includes devices that are applicable to networks of different scales: ME60-X3, ME60-X8, ME60-X8A, ME60-X16 and ME60-X16A. In this article, we will elaborate on the common license of Huawei ME60 Series Router.

What’s License?

A license is an agreement in which the supplier authorizes a customer to use certain functions of the purchased products within a validity period. The physical form of a license is a license file, also called Global Trotter License (GTL). NE40E software is subject to a license, which specifies features, versions, capacities, and expiration for the product.

A license file is an authorization file that controls the capacity and functions of a product. A license file is encrypted using the device’s sequence number as the key. In most cases, a license file is pre-installed on a device before device shipment.

ME60 Common License

For ISP clients, they must have ME60 for user authentication, billing, etc. This type of device is also called Broadband Remote Access Server (BRAS). Compared to NE40E, ME60 has additional BRAS functionality, which is necessary for ISPs. ME60 comes with PPPoE function, so it doesn’t need PPPoE license.

ME60 NAT function license

Network address translation (NAT) is an IP address translation technology that allows multiple private network users to share a few public IPv4 addresses to access public networks. A NAT device translates private IPv4 addresses in packets to public IPv4 addresses and records the mapping before users access the Internet.

To meet high requirements for NAT specifications on carrier networks, carrier-grade NAT (CGN) is used. CGN is deployed on core routers or broadband remote access servers (BRASs) on carrier networks. The following is the NAT function license for ME60 series routers:

– Each VSUF-80/VSUF-160/VSUI-160-E/VSUI-400 must be configured with one license to support the NAT64 function.

– One license must correspond to one VSUF-80/VSUF-160/VSUI-160-E/VSUI-400 in the 1:1 relationship.

– For the VSUF-80/VSUF-160/VSUI-160-E/VSUI-400, the active nat64 vsuf slot command is run in the license view to activate the license.

– Applicable Board: ME0DVSUF8070/ME0DVSUFD070/ME0CGNBASD7O/ME0CGNBASA7O/ME0CGNBASD71/ME0CGNBASA71/ME0DVSUIK076
