What If I Forget Huawei Switch Password for Console Port Login?

Huawei Switch default passwords for console port login are in different mode, if switch like S1720 S2700 S5700 and S6720 versions are V100R006C00 – V100R006C05, or V200R001C00 – V200R009C00, there is no default user and password; if V200R010C00 – V200R012C00, user is admin and password is . You can set new password when you login via console port when you firstly power on the switch. When you forget the password for logging in through the console port, use either of the following two methods to set a new password.

All firmware should be provided by the client and obtained from legally authorized way.

Notice: Please backup the previous configurations in case of configuration cannot to be recovered during operation; also because switch will restart when setting new password, please avoid operate it under busy service time.

Method 1

Logging In to the Device Through STelnet/Telnet to Set a New Password

Ensure that you have an STelnet/Telnet account and administrator rights. The following uses the command lines and outputs of logging in to the device using STelnet as an example. After logging in to the device through STelnet, perform the following operations.

# Take password authentication as an example. Set the password to Huawei@123.

Clearing the Lost Password Using the BootROM/BootLoad Menu

NOTE:

On S2720-EI, S5700S-28X-LI-AC, S5700S-52X-LI-AC, S5710-X-LI, S5720EI, S5720HI, S5720I-SI, S5720LI, S5720S-LI, S5720S-SI, S5720-SI, S5730-HI, S5730S-EI, S5730-SI, S6720-EI, S6720-HI, S6720-LI, S6720S-EI, S6720S-LI, S6720S-SI, and S6720-SI, you can clear the password for console port login through the BootLoad menu. On other switch models, you can clear the password through the BootROM menu.

Procedures:

1, Connect the terminal to the console port of the device and restart the device. When the following message is displayed, press Ctrl+B and enter the BootROM/BootLoad password to enter the BootROM/BootLoad menu.

After the device is started, log in through the console port. Authentication is not required when you log in. Set a password as prompted after login. (In V200R009 and later versions, the authentication mode for console port login is non-authentication after the device starts, and the system does not ask you to configure an authentication password.)

6, Save configuration

The current configuration will be written to the device.

When you forget your switch password for console login, you can reset a new password as above to methods; and Huawei recommends that use STelnet V2 to log in to switch.
