Configure 10GE Services in WDM OTN Networks

This article mainly inroduce solution about some common problems, such as, what are the differences between 10GE LAN and 10GE WAN services? how to  Configure 10GE Services in WDM/OTN Networks? how do we distinguish between 10GE LAN services and 10GE WAN services? why is the 10GE service that was configured on the U2000 unavailable? and why the speedup and standard modes are incorrectly configured.

1.What are the differences between 10GE LAN and 10GE WAN services?

According to IEEE 802.3ae, compared with 10GE LAN services,10GE WAN services involve an additional process in which signals are encapsulated into standard SDH/SONET frames. In other words, 10GE WAN services are processed in a similar way as how STM-64 services are processed in a WDM/OTN system. The most direct difference between 10GE LAN and 10GE WAN services is that they have different signal rates.

2.How do we configure 10GE LAN and 10GE WAN services?

Let’s take a look at the steps for configuring 10GE WAN services.

Now, let’s take a look at the steps for configuring 10GE LAN services. Pay attention to the mapping path setting for tributary boards and line rate setting for line boards.Look at the following figure.

Note:

(1) 10G/40G line boards have two models that provide different logical ports.

(2) Both ODU2 and ODU3 ports must be configured for 40G line boards.

(3) ODU3 ports in standard mode do not support ODU2e signals. Therefore,

we set the ODU3 ports on 40G line boards to the speedup mode (ODU3e).

The following explains the figure in details.

What is the difference between bit transparent mapping and MAC transparent mapping?

In bit transparent mapping (11.1G) mode, the OTU frame frequency is increased to ensure the encoding gain and error correction capability of the FEC function. Therefore, the service rate is OTU2e,which is higher than OTU2. This mapping mode is recommended for interconnection between Huawei devices.

In MAC transparent mapping (10.7G) mode, the GFP-F encapsulation mode is used to map 10GE MAC frames into OTU2 signals. This mapping mode provides a standard service rate and therefore facilitates interconnection between Huawei devices and peer devices.

Ah, I see. The line rate consistency is the key point. What are the precautions for configuring 10GE services by trail? After creating the complete OCh trail for a 10GE service, you need to create an ODU2 trail. If the service is a 10GE LAN service, you must also select the speedup or standard mode based on the actual scenario.

When creating the client trail, ensure that the service rate setting is the same as the service rate that was selected while setting board WDM interface parameters.

Finally, we need to ensure that the service configurations of the entire service trail and those in the transmit and receive directions are consistent.
