Huawei WDM-OTN Equipment Test Procedure

Huawei’s WDM/OTN intelligent optical transport solution is widely applicable to the backbone core layer, metro core layer, metro aggregation layer, and metro edge access layer along with Data Center Interconnect (DCI) scenario. The WDM/OTN solution is reliable and easy to maintain. It provides flexible transmission and fast service provisioning, allowing carriers to offer a wide range of diverse and appealing services.

Such an important equipment needs more attention to its quality when purchasing. There are many dealers in market, they ship out the equipment without any test, which might lead to abnormal work of the WDM/OTN system received by customers (board failed, optical module has no luminous power etc.) In this topic, we take Huawei OSN 8800 as example to show you how to test the WDM/OTN equipment (Huawei OSN 6800 etc)

Method 1. Navigator

Procedure:

1. Check the cable. One end of the cable should be connected to the network port of the computer. The other end should be connected to the specified port on the board.

NOTE:

a.For the OptiX OSN 8800 T64/T32, the other end should be connected to the NM_ETH1 port on the EFI2 or NM_ETH2 port on the EFI1 board.

b.For the OptiX OSN 8800 T16, the other end should be connected to the NM_ETH1 port or NM_ETH2 port on the EFI board.

c.For the OptiX OSN 6800, the other end should be connected to the NM_ETH1/NM_ETH2 port on the AUX board.

d.For the OptiX OSN 3800, the other end should be connected to the NM_ETH1/NM_ETH2 port on the AUX board.

2. Determine if the green indicator of the network card interface of the computer remains constantly on.

3. Check the indicators on the board. The green “LINK” indicator should remain constantly on. The orange “ACT” indicator should blink.

4. Remove the original IP address, then enter an IP address that is in the same network segment with the NE. for example, 129.9.0.N, where N is an integer from 1 to 255. Note that the IP address must be unique and cannot be the same as any of the existing IP addresses.

5. In the Subnet mask field, enter 255.255.0.0.

6. Click OK.

7. Starting the Navigator

8. Searching the IP address 129.9.0.N, click ‘Connect’ and login.

9. Run the command :verto check and record the NE ID of Huawei OSN 8800

10. Run the :cm-set-gateway: 129.9.0.254 command to set up gateway

11. In Navigator, you can use these 4 commands to obtain specific information of boards

:cfg-get-phybd

:cfg-get-bdinfo:N (slot NO.)

:cfg-get-bdverinfo:N (slot NO.)

:cfg-get-bdversion:N (slot NO.)

In the Navigator, we can check the basic manufacturing information of the device, boards. But the command mode is not easy to read for all customers. Here, we would like to introduce the test method by U2000.

Method 2. U2000

Procedure:

1. Connect the NMS computer into the LAN.

2. Check the cable. The NMS computer is connected to the LAN using cables. The ONS 8800 is connected to the LAN through the specified port on the board using cables.

NOTE:

a.For the OptiX OSN 8800 T64/T32, the other end should be connected to the NM_ETH1 port on the EFI2 or NM_ETH2 port on the EFI1 board.

b.For the OptiX OSN 8800 T16, the other end should be connected to the NM_ETH1 port or NM_ETH2 port on the EFI board.

c.The OptiX OSN 6800 is connected to the LAN through the NM_ETH1/NM_ETH2 port on the AUX board using cables.

d.The OptiX OSN 3800 is connected to the LAN through the NM_ETH1/NM_ETH2 port on the AUX board using cables.

3. Determine if the indicator for the network card interface of the NMS computer remains constantly on.

4. Check the indicators on the board. The green “LINK” indicator should remain constantly on. The orange “ACT” indicator should blink.

5. Starting U2000 client and login

6. Click Main Topology, and right click in the blank space to create a new NE.

7. Create New NE

8. Set the NE attributes.

For example, add the OptiX 8800 in the product family of NG WDM series NE. The NE attributes are shown in the following figure:

NE ID can be obtained in Navigator by using command :ver.

9. Click OK.

10. After a few seconds, a new icon of Huawei OSN 8800 equipment NE(9-3) appears on the screen

11. Double-click the NE(9-3) icon, select ‘Upload’; Huawei OSN 8800 successfully added on U2000 when upload is complete.

12. Double-click the NE(9-3) icon again, you can check which board has alarm prompts.

13. Select one of the boards, right-click and select ‘Browse Current Alarms’. In this way, you can check what specific alarms appear on the board, and there are solutions for your reference in the lower right corner.

NOTE:

the R_LOS alarm is normal when optical modules on the service board are not connected through optical fiber.

14. Select one of the boards, right-click and select ‘Board Manufacture Information’.

Care must be taken when purchasing WDM/OTN equipment, any failure or malfunction of hardware will cause more loss. In order to ensure the equipment received by customers can plug and play, Thunder-link.com will carry out detailed inspection on equipment, boards and even optical modules. And a test report will be shipped out along with the goods.

If you have any questions about the above procedures, please feel free to contact us at supports@thunder-link.com.
