Evolution from PON to 10G PON
PON terminals are greatly faster than xDSL/LAN terminals, which are the mainstream choice for home users now. However, EPON and GPON technologies cannot provide sufficient bandwidth for increasingly bandwidth-intensive services. To address the preceding issues, 10G PON technology is introduced.
10G PON can be classified into 10G EPON and 10G GPON, which evolved from existing EPON and GPON technologies respectively. And 10G GPON technologies include XG-PON and XGS-PON.

GPON ONT V.S. 10G PON ONT
The user-side rate of a 10G PON ONT can reach up to 1000 Mbit/s, meeting the requirements of home users on bandwidth-hungry services such as 4K/8K HD video, AR/VR, home cloud, and video calls. It can also provide private line access services of up to 10 Gbit/s.
To make it simple, we will take the most common GPON ONT EG8145V5 and 10G GPON ONT HN8346V5 as a comparison:

Due to XGS-PON is not fully commercialized, XGS-PON ONT can not be bulk supplied in the market for the moment, thus XG-PON ONT will dominate the market. And please be aware that the premise of deploying 10G GPON is the application of 10G GPON OLT and 10G GPON Service Board.
