Be ware of NEs Occasionally Becoming Unreachable on OptiX OSN 1800

Summary
There is a low probability that NEs report SWDL_NEPKGCHECK alarms when OptiX OSN 1800s are upgraded from V100R003C01SPC200 or earlier versions to V100R003C01SPC300. As a result, some
boards cannot start up and non-gateway NEs may become unreachable.

OSN 1800

[Problem Description]
Trigger condition:
Huawei transmission equipment OptiX OSN 1800s are upgraded to V100R003C01SPC300..There is a low probability that NEs report SWDL_NEPKGCHECK alarms in the activation phase when OptiX OSN 1800s are upgraded from V100R003C01SPC200 or earlier versions to V100R003C01SPC300. As a result, some boards cannot start up and the PROG indicators are steady on (red). If a non-gateway NE uses only one type of boards for communication over the ESC and does not use the extended ECC or the OSC of the system control board, there is a probability that the non-gateway NE becomes unreachable.

In an upgrade, 30 out of 1500 NEs report SWDL_NEPKGCHECK alarms and 2 NEs become unreachable.

Identification method:
1. Whether NEs report SWDL_NEPKGCHECK alarms.
2. Whether the non-gateway NE that becomes unreachable uses only one type of boards, for example, only ELOM boards, for ESC communications, and does not use the extended ECC or OSC.

[Root Cause]
Some software package files of an OptiX OSN 1800 NE are stored in the mfs area. The serial port redirection function, which is a new feature in V100R003C01SPC300, needs a place in the mfs area. The mfs area where the software package files of an OptiX OSN 1800 NE are stored may be mistakenly designated for use by the serial port redirection function. The serial port redirection data is written into the software package files so the software package files are damaged.
This problem does not inevitably arise because the software package files are placed in the mfs areas randomly and the mfs areas where software package files of most NEs are stored do not overlap with the mfs area in which the serial port redirection function data is stored. The following figure illustrates the reason.

2. If a non-gateway NE becomes unreachable, reseat the system control board onsite. The NE will automatically roll back to the source version. Restore data and re-load the V100R003C01SPC300+SPH310 package on the U2000.
Workaround:
Use any of the following methods to prevent this problem:

  •  Enable the extended ECC if there are other NEs in the DCN subnet at the site.
  • Use the OSC provided by the system control board for communication.
  •  Use two or more types of boards for ESC communication on an NE, for example, a combination of ELOM and LDGF boards.

Alarms of HSC_UNAVAIL&COMMUN_FAIL & BD_STATUS on SSR2 CXLLN of OSN1500B

Symptom: In the deployment of the project of the OSN1500B Ring we have a problem that happened without any notice in the site with external clock reference,this alarms caused an cut of an BER test performed in the network.

Alarm Information: 

Those alarms are cleared without any operation and customer need know why those alarm happened.

In the deployment of the project found the follow alarms in the CXLLN board for one of four SDH equipment.
-HSC_UNAVAIL —-> in the R2CXL sub board.
-BD_STATUS ——> in the R2SLN, R2CXL and GSCC sub boards.
-COMMUN_FAIL –> in the GSCC sub board.

This equipment is connected to OSN 8800 and in this equipment appears an R_LOS Alarm in the same time thet the alarms in the OSN 1500B.

Following the possible cause, we analyze it as below:
Firstly, we check the operation logs.
There is no reset operation during this period.

Secondly, we check the blackbox information of CXL board;

Thirdly, we confirmed with R&D and know it is known issue, which is a software bug on OSN 1500B with SSR2CXL board:
the clock module detect that the register is error, and set this board fault and hard reset, that is why the CXL board report HSC_UNAVAIL and BD_STATUS alarms.
This issue can happen on the NE version which is V1R10C03SPC203 or earlier.

The occurring rate is very small, but if the clock source is switching very frequently on this NE, the rate will be increasing.

Handling Process:

The solution provided by R&D is upgrade the equipment software version from V100R010C03 to V100R010C03SPC208.

-We apply for the new version in the support page.
-Obtain the Approvals.
-Download the new package.
-Upgrade the new software using the simulation package method.
-Replicate the failure scenario with the clock issue (conmute the clock between CXLLN boards.)

Suggestions and Summary:

The conclusion of the root cause is:

The clock module detect that the register chip is error, and set this board fault, then hard reset, that is why the CXL board reported HSC_UNAVAIL and BD_STATUS alarms.
The suggestion is install or upgrade the software of the OSN1500 equipment to V100R010C03SPC208 or later version.

Reasons for logical abnormality and Fail restoration of TN serises DWDM board

Summary:
When a warm reset is performed on a TN52XCH, TN52XCM, TNK2XCT, or TNK2SXM board that has not booted, the board becomes logically abnormal and cannot be restored to normal.
[Problem Description]
Trigger conditions:
For a TN52XCH, TN52XCM, TNK2XCT, or TNK2SXM board, when the physical board is installed but no logical board is configured or mapped, an upgrade in package loading or matching mode is performed and the board experiences a warm reset during the upgrade. The common application scenarios on the live network are as follows:
1. During a subrack expansion, a cross-connect board is added to the subrack and undergoes package loading or matching before the required logical board is configured.

2. During board replacement, a cross-connect board is added to the subrack and undergoes package loading or matching before the required logical board is configured or mapped.
Symptom:
When no BUS_ERR alarm is reported on the entire NE and no HARD_BAD alarm is reported for the cross-connect boards, the active/standby switching on the cross-connect boards fails.
Identification method:
During normal NE operation, run the SmartKit Inspector to check the following item:
Checking why the working status of the synchronous cross-connect board is set to abnormal and cannot be restored

[Root Cause]

This issue is a known issue of a synchronous cross-connect board. To be specific, if the software of a synchronous cross-connect board is (warm) reset before the board software starts to work, the working status of the board software will be set to abnormal after the board software gets started.

[Impact and Risk]
Active/standby switching cannot be performed on the cross-connect boards. As a result, services may be affected.
[Measures and Solutions]
Recovery measures:
When the system is properly operating, run the SmartKit Inspector. If any abnormality is found, rectify the abnormality according to the following handling suggestions:
Perform the following steps in the permitted maintenance windows:
1. If both the active and standby cross-connect boards in a subrack are malfunctioning, perform a cold reset on the standby cross-connect board. About 5 minutes later after the board software starts to work, active/standby switching will be automatically performed. After the active/standby switching is completed, perform a cold reset on the new standby cross-connect board.
2. If only one cross-connect board is malfunctioning in a subrack, perform the following operations:
If the standby cross-connect board is malfunctioning, perform a cold reset on it.
If the active cross-connect board is malfunctioning, check whether a fault occurs on the standby cross-connect board and rectify the fault if it is found. After the fault on the standby cross-connect board is rectified, active/standby switching will be automatically performed. After the active/standby switching is completed, perform a cold reset on the new standby optical transmission cross-connect board.

3. Check whether the cross-connect boards are normal.
Workarounds:
When no logical boards are loaded for cross-connect boards, do not upgrade the cross-connect boards in package loading or matching mode or perform a warm reset on the boards.
Preventive measures:
Upgrade the board software version to OptiX OSN 8800 V100R006C01SPC200 or later.

 

Cautions for Bits Error Problem of SSN2PQ1-B3 Boards on the NG-SDH Product

Summary: For SSN2PQ1-B3 boards whose PCBs are manufactured by Fastprint, service bits errors occur when they are working with SSN1GXCSA/SSN1EXCSA/SSN1UXCSA/SSR2CXL cross-connect boards.

[Problem Description]Fault symptoms: Service bits errors occur after the board is powered on. Trigger conditions:SSN2PQ1-B3 boards in Ver.A that are delivered on 2013-03-01 to 2013-07-31. Determine the faulty board based on the part number of the board in the delivery list. Identification method: Check whether the manufacture of the board is SSN2PQ1A03/SSN2PQ1B03 or check whether the silk screen of the PCB is SSN3PQ1. Then check the part number of the board to determine whether the board is in the delivery list. See the attachment for the delivery list. indentification method [Root Cause]

The LOCAL BUS generates a crosstalk to the LVDS bus on the receiving side of the SSN2PQ1-B3 system. The crosstalk becomes even serious when the PCB manufactured by Fastprint works with cross-connect chips with weak driving capability. Therefore, bits errors occur.

Service bits errors persist after the board is powered on.

[Measures and Solutions]

Workaround: None

Recovery measures: None

Solution: Replace the faulty boards with new boards with the batch rectification application. The boards codes are 03021SJB and 03021SJC.
